Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s Iowa campaign chairman Kent Sorenson tonight endorsed Ron Paul, one of her rivals in the Iowa caucus race.

“I believe we’re at a turning point in this campaign,” Sorenson said during his surprise announcement this evening at a Ron Paul rally in Des Moines. “… I thought it was my duty to come to his aid, just like he came to my aid during my Senate race, which was a very nasty race.”

I believe I once read that Bachmann attended Paul’s Austrian Economics seminars before, so you’d think that they’d be more inline with one another on many issues. I think her theocratic tendencies and off-her-rocker foreign policy positions will do her in. I predict she’ll quit the race after Iowa.

What are your thoughts about the upcoming Apocalyptic ending of the world?

My thought is, nothing will happen and the calendar will continue to turn. What I am worried about are all the kooks out there that believe the world is going to end on 12/21/2012 and they start doing stupid things leading up to this date that will injure or kill innocent people.

Maryland’s Southern Shore

As many of you probably are aware, there’s a movement to change the county motto from “the wild side of the potomac - where eagles soar” to “maryland’s southern shore”. There’s a promotional video and survey available on the charlescounty.org site to allow you to give your thoughts about the video and the motto.

I’d like to talk about the motto here - if need be, please start a video critique discussion in another thread.

The justification, or narrative about the switch is “The proposed slogan, “Maryland’s Southern Shore,” emphasizes the county’s rural character and desirable location, ” Now frankly, when I think “Southern Shore”, I don’t think “rural character” - in fact I don’t know of anyone, in a word association game that would put those two phrases together.

I don’t really see what’s wrong with our current motto, or why there’s a need for change. And how much will the change cost? The tri-county area combined is more often called the western shore of Maryland, not the southern shore.

My connotation of a southern shore is beaches and bodysurfing and people sunbathing. Sure, some deep sea fishing and kayaking and sailing - but shore brings to mind a whole lot of things that we don’t have. As far as I can find, there’s ONE boat/kayak rental shop in Charles County - not a lot for a water oriented “shore” community. And it ignores a lot of things we DO have. Eagles and beautiful vistas, historical churches and homes, our little stadium to name a few. (yes, I know some of them appear in the video, but it’s mostly water focused.) There are a lot of things to boast about in Charles County that have little to do with “Shore”. I’d hazard to guess that more people would think Solomon Islands if you asked “where’s Maryland’s southern shore?”.

Personally, I prefer what we have now.

Sheriff Coffey: Something has happened, Something misfired….... Should we bring back the lynching tree?

The Sixth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and our Bill of Rights sets the ground work for criminal prosecution. The Sixth Amendment requires juries to be impartial. Impartiality has been interpreted as requiring individual jurors to be unbiased. At voir dire, each side may question potential jurors to determine any bias, and challenge them if the same is found; the court determines the validity of these challenges for cause. Defendants may not challenge a conviction because a challenge for cause was denied incorrectly if they had the opportunity to use peremptory challenges.

Sherriff Coffey crossed that fine line the night he made the remarks to the Pincefield Civic association meeting, trying to influence public opinion to convict, based upon the premise “We would not have arrested them if they were not guilty.”

Sherriff Coffey took an oath to uphold the laws of this land, to protect the Constitution of the United States of America, Sheriff Coffey gave in to the pressures of his office, which has swayed his opinion of the rights and wrongs of our society.

No matter how we feel as a population, the innocents or guilt of a party does not rest upon the shoulders of the police force, but with the people, the peers of society, this amendment by its self sets America apart from all other nations.

Charles County is changing, society is changing, the juror is changing, the requirements set forth for convictions is more demanding now. Too many innocent people have been proven innocent through DNA and the advances of science. When the convection rate does not go your way, do not blame society, do not ask our citizens to give up their basic rights and find people guilty just because you arrested them.

Sheriff Coffey, I supported your election and your re-election, however, something has happened, something misfired, with your remarks we might as well bring back the lynching tree, for that is what it represents, what you said, and what you feel, truly makes me weary of your ability to continue in your current position, as Sheriff of Charles County Maryland. I implore the citizens of this county to request you retire with some sort of dignity, or cast a recall vote to remove you from office.

Occupy Wall Street

Why is it, some of our politicians glorify the “Occupy Wall Street” and “October 2011” rallies and protests?

Why is it, they condone the violence used by these protesters as was shown the other night when protesters rushed the police lines in New York City?

Is it just me or is crime starting to really jump here in Charles County? You see according to Crime Reports, it sure looks like it, there’s been 105 B&E’s in the County in the past 30 days, and if you want to check it out here’s the website;

Another question I have is why aren’t all the crimes that happen in our County posted in the Police Briefs’ section of the Independent newspaper? I mean it seems like the only thing posted there on a regular basis is if someone’s fancy wheel’s get stolen off their vehicle, heck I’ve been told they’ve set up a real top notch “Task Force” to get to the bottom of the wheel thief’s here in the County.

But the sad thing is there still being stolen in our County on a regular basis, so I guess it’s a mute point to ask for a “Task Force” to stop the B&E’s…

I know how to jump start the economy-

Instead of spending Billions or should I say Trillions on private companies that go defunct or “Greenie Weenie” jobs that are not going to work the way they want them to work in our economy. Let’s face it; a family of 5 living on $22,000 per annum cannot afford a “Greenie Weenie” light bulb that costs $7.95, and a company as big as GM shouldn’t have been bailed out in the first place.

Let’s put that money to some good use and “invest” in the citizens of the United States –

The 2010 Census has counted 308,745,538 living in the United States, so my plan says, give every person 18 and over, with-out a criminal record, that makes less than $1M per annum, $1M, but with some conditions, and these conditions are as follows.

1. You have to spend it within 1 year; whatever you can’t/don’t spend goes back to Uncle Sam.
2. It has to be spent in the United States.
3. You can’t put more than $50,000 in a savings account.

You can spend it on whatever you like, you can buy a car, you can buy a house, buy a vacation home somewhere in the U.S., pay-off loans, set up a college fund for your children or you can go to college, donate to your favorite charity or church, spend it anyway you want to spend it, as long as the money stays in the United States and helps our economy and companies here in the United States.

Now I’m dead set against Socialism, Progressive Socialism, whatever you want to call it, all I’m saying is instead of throwing good money after bad investing in companies that go belly up or bailing out companies, maybe bail-out the citizens, plus my plan would be a lot cheaper.

ITS THE ECONOMY, STUPID- isnt that what someone said once?

Dont have time to start the topic, but since the Union thread got tied up with the ECONOMY; I thought I would start a convrsation here.

Seems today I heard someone in the Administration in advising on the ECONOMY, said: We are a Nation of Whiners!

Such baby’s we are crying over losing our homes, jobs, credit…....

Where is the outrage?

It seems like the wind turbines that all the “Greenie Weenie’s” in the U.S. are so in love with are killing numerous birds in a gruesome, grisly and painful way when birds fly into them.
