National Prayer Garden- Proposed for Welcome

Mentioning the prayer garden. I received the following links for the taped meeting for the prayer garden that was conducted in Welcome a bit ago. Because of the time and utube limitations it is in 5 segments.

Ken Robinson proposes replacing Morgantown Pwr plant with wind energy

Recently, CCC Ken Robinson suggested replacing the Morgantown fossil fuel fired power plant with an industrial turbine farm. Considering a post here on Delusional Duck citing that Ken Robinson draws only about half of his home power from his grant erected windmill (I believe it’s just Ken and his wife living there, rather than a family with a couple of kids and the power that would be drawn in a family household), I’m anxious to see the numbers that were crunched to support such a proposal.

How many turbines to replace the coal fired plant at its current output of power? What would it cost to purchase power (and from where) when the wind isn’t blowing? What’s the estimated amount times power would have to be purchased?

What about the suggestion by MCEC rep that this area isn’t really likely candidate? What sort of wind studies supporting Ken’s opinion that Morgantown is an appropriate place to put a industrial turbine plant have been done in the area and who paid for them?

nanjemoy, “the shame of charles county.”

lemon moses sr. speaks out on nanjemoy in a letter to the editor in yesterday’s maryland independent.

That was 31 years ago, and our local government has done nothing to help these people. That is why I refer to it as the “shame of Charles County.”

did anyone catch the letter by lemon moses in yesterday’s paper? thoughts and/or comments?speaking for myself, i tend to agree with he says in the second paragraph.

But so far, I have been sorely disappointed because it seems as though this group is more interested in their public images rather than what they should be doing for the welfare of the people.

as for the remainder of the letter, i feel he took a very un-lemon-like cheap shot at commissioner president kelly. I’ve been reading mr. moses’ letters for years, but i have to say this one really disappoints me.

Responses from Govt enquiries (Federal/State/Local) Timely? No Responses? Lets Keep Track

Lately I have sent several letters or contacted officials;

Here are the timeless of responses and if to the point.
Federal- Milkowski- next day and to the point I wrote about
Federal- Hoyer- a week later and kinda a general response that talked around it (I call it the old Commissioner Board kind of response)
State- Murphy: next day- to the point
State- Middleton- general response a week later
State- Jameson- no response
State- CT WILSON - no response
Local Commissioners (several emails or several non related topics ) 12 hours or less (if sent to another Dept) next working day by Director..

I thought it interesting the difference in the Commissioners Office in this short while, and the responses from the others.

Like Cheryl- Im gonna keep track.

Can everyone else contribute? Lets grade them all after a year.

What good is the CNS notification system?

I don’t know how many other people here have signed-up for the CNS (Citizens Notification Service), but in my opinion it has been a big bust.

I don’t know who is in charge of it, or how they are alerted to an emergency and other pertinent and/or relevant information, but how hard would it be, to let say, send a message out to remind the subscribers to this service to turn your clocks back at 2 AM (11/01/09), and check/change your smoke detector batteries too.

I’ve also noticed that the other area notification services, send out a lot of other information for there counties that has impacted Charles County, but we didn’t receive anything from or CNS system.

I realize this is a free service to the citizens of Charles County, but when you don’t receive anything that may impact you, what good is it.

Please check your tires

Ok…this isn’t Charles County News but I didn’t know where to stick it…

Last night on my way home, I stopped to get gas. Next to me was a public transportation vehicle. The tires on the right side were dangerously low…I alerted the driver.

Today, while doing routine aintenance on our vehicles, I noticed that my wife wasn’t paying attention to her tires. One was 20lbs underinflated and another was 15.

In this cold weather, tires lose pressure and an underinflated tire is an accident waiting to happen. Please check your tires.

When you fill up…walk around the vehicle while you are waiting…it takes less than a minute and give it a quick visible check. Don’t risk your life or your family’s lives over something stupid like a tire that is poorly inflated.

Fireworks tonight?

I was just out with my telescope looking at the deep sky…

A few minutes before 9:00…there were two very bright flashes that lit up the whole sky the flashes seemed to orient in the East toward St Mary’s county from my house…after maybe 15-20 seconds I heard a low rumbling bang…bang. 20 minutes later fire trucks were heading south on 234…but that may have been coincidental.

Was there an explosion in St Mary’s this evening? Or was a locality putting up fireworks in observance of Veteran’s Day? The direction of the light seemed wrong for Budd’s Creek and Leonardtown is too far away from us to see fireworks. I hope no one was hurt.

Nanjemoy Workforce Housing - Holly Hall Subdivision

The meeting tonight at Nanjemoy fire house was pretty short and sweet. Jim Lorenzi and Wayne Wilkerson presented their plans for the property including 67 new single-family homes of which 10 will be Moderately Priced Dwelling Units (MPDU). According to them, every lot has a perc and each will have its own well and septic. The lots are 3/4-1 acre. Some people in the audience conceded that this property is mostly sand so percs shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ll post their handouts of bullet points and the layout if someone will help me with my pdf files which are larger than what can be attached.

I asked directly if they can go ahead with the development regardless of the MPDU’s and they said yes. They claim that it is within curerent zoning so no variance is needed. The development was apparently approved by the Planning Commission back in June.

For the MPDU’s, the developer be providing a $400K grant to be used for “second mortgages” on the properties of up to $40K each. If the buyer stays in the home for 10 years, the “second mortgage” is forgiven. If they leave earlier, it is presumably on a pro rata basis. This will be administered by DCS who will determine eligibility for the MPDU’s.

My understanding from other posts on here is that there will be no problem getting permits for the wells even though this is going to create a further strain on the aquifer.

This sounds like a done deal.
