Obama: Minister must cancel Quran-burning ‘stunt’

WTOP,

President Barack Obama implored a Florida minister to call off his Quran-burning “stunt,” saying it would jeopardize U.S. troops abroad.

Obama told ABC’s “Good Morning America” in an interview aired Thursday that he hopes the Rev. Terry Jones of Florida listens to “those better angels” and to the individuals and organizations pleading with him to change his mind.

“If he’s listening, I hope he understands that what he’s proposing to do is completely contrary to our values as Americans,” the president said. “That this country has been built on the notion of freedom and religious tolerance.”

“And as a very practical matter, I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform,” Obama added.

    The U.S. is better than this. People in this country shouldn't resort to doing things like this, which is exactly what Muslim extremists want to see. It only gives them an excuse to retaliate.

    Islam has their fringe lunatics, we have ours.

    seems about even.

    i think America is done with this argument. let's move on to stuff that really matters.

    You can't have it both ways. I was watching the "news" this morning and the talking heads were saying that fire departments in the area were contacted and have announced that it is legal to start a small fire (eg; campfire) but it can only consist of "small sticks and leaves" therefore, the burning of the Quran was "illegal" and yet, burning an American flag in protest is protected speech. Hmmm...

    This clown has every "right" to burn a bunch of books, but I have every right to think he's just as stupid as a flag-burner or an extremist in Gaza burning G.W. Bush in effigy or a guy pushing a Muslim Cultural Center near the WTC site.

    My fellow comrades of The People’s Republic of Maryland have spoken. Now, hopefully, someone will make my house payment for me!

  • 9. · This guy is a real piece of work. Instead of respectfully remembering this day, he's gone all loony and made the whole damn world focus on him. If he disappeared, I wouldn't cry. Acting like a bunch of crazies, burning other people's religious texts, makes us no better than those who would do us harm. God Bless America and those who die each day to defend her!
